What is a Kunar tour like?

Short answer

Kunar is the green Kunar River valley north-east of Jalalabad, with forested mountains, the town of Asadabad and the road into Nuristan. Al Hamid Tour and Travel's Kunar Valley Tour takes 3 days and costs $450 to $660 per person, with an English-speaking guide, private transport and hotels with breakfast. The best season is spring and autumn.

Kunar runs north-east from Jalalabad along the Kunar River, between mountains whose upper slopes are covered in oak, pine and cedar. Its capital, Asadabad, stands where the Pech River joins the Kunar, about 92 km by road from Jalalabad. The valley is the main road into Nuristan, and greener than most of Afghanistan. Kunar borders Pakistan, so we check the road and local conditions before every trip.
